Smoking, drugs use as well as tobacco use among young people has now become a common occurrence for many because some of them they imitate their peers but still they have no education about the harmful effects of using such substances

In addressing this issue, the government through the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, the Elderly and Children, has come up with a strategic plan to provide education to young people on ensuring that it reduces or eliminates the use of these drugs in order to protect the public health.
However, the minister in charge Dr Ummy Mwalimu said she was giving two months to Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority TMDA an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the country's drug commission to ensure they conduct research and evaluation of the products in order to see how to reduce or completely restrict its use for the benefit of the individual as well as the development of the country as a whole.

According to World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, the use of tobacco products causes deaths by almost half of its users and more than 8 million people worldwide die each year as a result of tobacco use.

According to a study conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics in 2018 showed that 8.7% of Tanzanians equivalent to 2.6 million people use tobacco and approximately 14,700 deaths annually are due to tobacco use
It has also been reported that most people are affected by second hand smoke in workplaces, bars, leisure centers and restaurants where a study showed that 77% of people smoke in bars, 31.1% in restaurants and 13.8% in homes.
On other hand Dr. Ummy wrote on his Tweeter page that "It should be noted that many non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have been increasing day by day and causing various diseases caused by the indiscriminate use of tobacco products" wrote Ummy
She also added that "Think about whether you should continue to smoke or not; and I urge all smokers in the country to stop smoking. If you have not started smoking I advise you not to indulge in smoking.
