Amesema Serikali imechukua uamuzi huo baada ya Mamlaka ya Udhibiti wa Nishati nchini (EWURA) kutangaza bei mpya elekezi ya mafuta kwa mwezi Septemba ambapo ilionesha kupanda kwa bei za bidhaa hizo.  EWURA ilitangaza bei hiyo tarehe 31 Agosti, 2021. Waziri Mkuu ametoa taarifa hiyo (Ijumaa, Septemba 10, 2021) wakati wa kuahirisha Mkutano wa Nne wa Bunge la 12 jijini Dodoma. Bunge limeahirishwa hadi tarehe 2 Novemba, 2021. Amesema kufuatia tangazo hilo la kupanda kwa bei za bidhaa hizo, Septemba Mosi, 2021, Serikali ilisitisha bei mpya zilizotangazwa na EWURA ili kufanya mapitio ya kina ya kupanda huko kwa bei na siku iliyofuata iliunda timu ya uchunguzi.
